description
Lucien Wercollier is considered as one of the main protagonists of Luxembourg’s contemporary art and as a major 20th century sculptor. During the German occupation of Luxembourg in World War II, he refused to join the Nazi Kulturkammer and was arrested on September 4, 1942, when he participated in the nationwide strike. During two weeks he was imprisoned in the Grund prison. Sixty years later, the Grund prison has been converted to a cultural centre – the cultural centre Neumünster Abbey (CCRN) – where many works of his private collection are permanent permanently exhibited.
